Give Me That Bubble Tea – happy.me – Greenside Does Good

November 7, 2013

Funny that the Saffas have only just cottoned on to this rad drink vibe known as the bubble tea. Invented in Taiwanese tea shops in the 80’s (love that decade), bubble tea is a blend of sweet, milky or fruity tea combined with flavoured tapioca pearls. I know right… magic potion in a cup. How very exotic & trendy. Up until now the bubble tea has remained elusive in the suburban Saffa circles – within any Saffa circle in fact. But the tea with bubbles has been brought to the Greenside masses & all those who flock there for a jol or whatever. Say hi to happy.me guys, say hi.

Yup a whole shop dedicated to this Taiwanese wonder, where you can get your trendy tea & Asian intake all at once – sweet. There’s a tree in the middle of the store – it has a vibe. Walls made for stroking – astro turf deluxe & about 20-30 varieties of tea & flavour pearl combinations. There’s clearly some sort of art to combining those pearls – lemon with strawberry with passion fruit with…. whatever.

The branding is *kewl charna* & the design lures you in. Writing on the wall with words like awesome is well… awesome yes. happy.me also has the biggest straws on earth & yes, you do kind of feel like a kid in candy land while you sit there, next to the grass wall, under a tree, just drinking that bubbly tea. I fell in like with the H.Me Signature Milk Tea (well one of them – there are loads) – Roasted Oolong Latte with roasted apple & cinnaminaminaminamin – smiles for days.

So if you’re acting like an asshole or happen to be in a crowd of assholes – take them to Happy.me because – you know.

Where can we get a big straw Leila? Village Green Shopping Centre, 127 Greenway Road, Greenside, Jozi Town. (Kind of neighbours with Odd Cafe – but not really)
